Gluten free

Learn more about gluten, gluten-free living, and clean eating.

By now, most people have heard of gluten, and the gluten-free lifestyle. Many people have also started to go gluten-free, and with good reason. While they may not all have celiac disease, which results in severe symptoms if they eat gluten, many people report feeling better than ever once they remove gluten from their menu.

So what IS gluten, exactly, and how can you and your family go gluten-free?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. We’re encouraged to eat whole grains, but the trouble is that gluten is often concentrated and used in various forms, such as starch, modified starch, and so on. It serves as a thickener and gives food a certain “mouth feel”.

However, over time, gluten can cause problems with the digestive tract, especially in someone who has celiac disease, in which the bowel becomes inflamed by the gluten.

If you’re experiencing a lot of gastric upset each time you eat, it might be time to consider going gluten free. A clean eating lifestyle can also help.
