Shoestring Budget Home Business Ideas

It seems almost everyone today is talking about the need for either a new job or a supplement to the income. There are many ways to earn a few extra dollars for little or no start-up fees if you are willing to think outside the box. Some ways will be slow at the start, but over time can even be turned into permanent full-time work. Below are a few that might interest you.

House Sitting/Pet Sitting

House sitting is a relatively untapped market. People who vacation or have a job that requires them to travel a lot would feel better about someone watching over their home while they are away. There are not a lot of start-up fees.  All you really need is a resume with references and a business card.

You can post them at all the local places people go to that have the bulletin boards. You will be surprised how many people peruse these boards if they are looking for a service. If you want to spend a few dollars, you can also place an ad in your local paper offering your services.

The same applies to pet sitting. Most people who have animals place them in the same regard as a family member and would be truly comforted at someone coming to their home to care for them while they themselves are away. The same procedures apply – provide business cards and a resume. With a little bit of effort on your part, the phone will be ringing in no time.

Consultant

People are also on the lookout for someone who can help them with something they cannot do or do not understand. Having knowledge in one area superior over most others can go far here. You can be a business consultant, marketing consultant or a consultant in any area in which you have expertise. Marketing is important. Get out the word with family and friends. Business cards and flyers will help to promote, along with the use of a website.

Party/Wedding Planner

If you have been told you have a flair for planning parties, this can be a very rewarding job. You will want to compile some ideas into a booklet with pictures and plans. A website would work wonders here, as many people now use the internet to find such services. Business cards, references and a few photos are a must. Again, use your base to help get out the word.

There are many businesses you can start with little to no money. Like with any business, however, you must do your research and ensure that you are capable of taking on the responsibilities. Create a business plan and be prepared to put in hard work.
