The word meditate means to think, so meditation is the process of thinking. What you think about will depend on the kind of meditation you are doing. There are many different kinds, but the most basic is a breathing meditation, in which you focus on your breath in order to calm your normally racing thoughts. This can stress you less and give you more clarity of mind.

Another popular meditation these days is mindfulness meditation, which can be described as ‘living in the moment’. Mindfulness teaches you to focus on your life moment by moment rather than living on ‘autopilot’.
